It’s hard to explain what it is about this World Heritage Blue Mountains region that sticks with you. They’re the perfect escape from urban chaos, a natural cathedral of sandstone cliffs, waterfalls and gum-scented air.

Just 90 minutes from Circular Quay via the Great Western Highway, the region is part of the UNESCO-listed Greater Blue Mountains. It’s a vast World Heritage sanctuary, stretching all the way to Wollemi National Park. It’s a patchwork of steep gorges, rainforests and eucalypt forests, home to over 400 species of Australian animals, featuring lyrebirds, wallabies, and even the rare dingo.
