1 A.canB.doesC.thenD.and 答答案是A。 We have sweaters in all colors at$50 each./We have great bags for just$4!At和for表价格时的用法有何不同? 有时候我们还可以运用短语at the price of...for主要强调等价交换。比如:We bought this bag for only$4! 问I dislike the book. 问We each______a ticket.是用have还是用has? Come down to Huaxing and see for yourself! 答for oneself表示“亲自”;by oneself表示“独自一人”,相当于alone。 问―I don’t know______with this problem. It’s too hard.―You can ask Mr.Wang for help. A.which to doB.when to toC.what to doD.how to do 答答案是C。先来熟悉两个短语:do with和deal with,都表示“处理”。但因为do是及物动词,do sth.with... 而deal是一个不及物动词要与with搭配成deal with sth.,因此在提问的时候,正确的方法是:what to do with和how to deal with。 问―How far is Jiuzi Square from your home? ―About 3 kilometres______. A.away B.long C.far D.around 答答案是A。 It’s far from my house. In Autumn, all kinds of fruits appear in the market. 问Every table and every chair______made of wood. A.isB.areC.wereD.be 答应该写成among us four。 2 Laba rice porridge was first introduced to China in the Song Dynasty about 900 years ago. Buddhism was well accepted in the areas inhabited by the Han Chinese, who believed that Sakyamuni the first Buddha and founder of the religion, attained enlightenment on the eighth day of the twelfth month.Sutras were chanted in the temples and rice porridge with beans, nuts and dried fruit was prepared for the Buddha. With the passing of time the custom extended, especially in rural areas where peasants would pray for a plentiful harvest in this way. There is,however, another touching story:When Sakyamuni was on his way into the high mountains in his quest for understanding and enlightenment,he grew tired and hungry.Exhausted from days of walking,he fainted away by a river in India.A shepherdess found him there and fed him her lunch--porridge made with beans and rice.Sakyamuni was thus able to continue his journey. 3 Wherever you are,you can see many people equipped with mobile phones. It seems that the world becomes smaller nowadays. You could be found wherever you are so long as you take the mobile phone with you. Some people wonsider the mobile phone necessary and useful to them, while others may dislike it. People who like the mobile phone are much more concerned about its advantages. It is convenient, for you can connect others easily and quickly. You don’t have to wait for an important call at home all day long. The youth of today send messages, surf on the net, listen to music and even take photos by using the mobile phone.People find it advanced for its attractive functions. In some countries,it even stands for a person’s status. However, some people don’t like it.Imagine that you go to spend your holiday with your family after days of busy and tiresome work. When you lay on the beach comfortably, your phone rings. Then you have to go back to your office only to find an unimportant customer waiting for you.At that moment, you may even want to throw your phone away, for you just want to relax and get rid of your work. China is now gradually to prosperity,so the credibility suddenly emerged around us almost full of all types of integrity businesses and individuals, all highly imaginative deception, for example, put some washing powder to the bread in;to Pigs fed clenbuterol or lots of water injection point;to the turtle eel feed point of contraceptives and so amazing.False advertising various businesses, products and profits,it is endless,so look for the Chinese stock market was launched respected companies such a thing. Why the sudden lack integrity and we so eager to call credit? The desire in people to the faith,in fact, have some prophetic nature. If we still have nothing or to Dousipixiu, then our own respect for life, property and freedom of consciousneis still sleeping on unawakened, exactly 20 years of reform and opening up,wake up the consciousneof people sleeping inside, but when we woke up in the age of the cake is not big enough yet,so there are a variety of bad faith disputes,in fact, behind the word, but is a benefit! But this is still a step forward, not backwards. We often say that the United States in the national level of credibility to the more silly, but a century ago Americans had not been so honest in the past the motels in the United States, toilet pa-pe-r,cups and even towels missing, almost commonplace,in very abundant material wealth, the theft of a small property so much lebehavior. The same is true in many parts of China, such as Fujian Jinjiang,Wenzhou and so on,a local product who is synonymous with counterfeiting, but now the development of local economy and the rule of law to a certain stage, they are themselves up to good faith, and has,and then the Wu made the next big difference Amon. This is probably what we call adequate food, clothing and bred, and know etiquette Depository real meaning of it! 6 I like reading in my free time.I've read all kinds of books which are written by many famous writers from all over the world. But I like a Chinese writer best. His name is Xu Zimo. If you could choose what kind of world to live in,what kind of world would you choose? If you could decide what would happen tomorrow, with what kinds of things would you fill it? If you had the power to decide what types of opportunities would come your way, what opportunities would you select? If you knew that your experiences would match your expectations, what would your expectations be? In fact, you do have the power to choose your own way. You do have the ability to decide what kinds of events, experiences, opportunities and circumstances come your way. The world you experience is the world that your dreams, your thoughts, your expectations and your actions most closely resonate*. The world you see and live in is the world you most sincerely expect to see. The universe is filled with endless possibilities, and those possibilities keep growing with every minute. The way you live determines which of those possibilities will come into your life. With your thoughts, your actions, your values, your dreams and expectations, you choose what kind of world you live in. The way you live is closely mirrored in the world you see. Today is an excellent day for small improvements. Whatever is working for you, find a way to improve it just a little. There’s no need to make a huge change, just a small one, something you can do right now. If you called just one additional customer each day, over the course of the next month you would talk to about 20 new people. If you learned just one more new word each day,in the next year you would increase your vocabulary by more than 300 words. Small improvements can add up over time into big accomplishments. Look around you. Consider the work you do each day. Think about how you could do it just a little bit better. In a marathon race, each step the winner takes is just a little bit longer and a little bit faster than each stride taken by the 100th place finisher.Yet over the course of the race, that small difference adds up in a big way. Do just a little bit more today, and tomorrow too,and each day after that. Anyone can make just a small improvement, and that can make a big,big difference. People often wonder why historians go to so much trouble to preserve millions of books, documents and records. Why do we have libraries? What good are these documents and history books? Why do we record and save the actions of men,the negotiations1 of government officials and the events during wars? We do it because, sometimes, the voice of experience can cause us to stop, look and listen.Sometimes, past records, when understood in the right way,can help us decide what to do and what not to do. If we are ever to create lasting peace,we must seek its origins in human experience and in the records of human history. From the stories of courage and devotion of men and women,we create the inspirations of youth.History records the suffering, the self-denial2,the devotion, and the heroic deeds of people in the past. These records can help us when we are confused and when we really need peace. The main purpose of history is to create a better world. History gives a warning to those who promote war,and inspiration to those who seek peace. In short, history helps us learn. Yesterday’s records can keep us from repeating yesterday’s mistakes. And from the pieces of mosaic4 assembled5 by historians come the great murals6 which represent the progress of mankind. I sat in the comfort of my grandparents’house, enjoying the rain and the“Cat Concerto”episode of Tom and Jerry with my grandfather. Munching on one of my grandmother’s fresh, scrumptious rotis,I saw a monkey suddenly swing onto the bars on our door. My grandfather encouraged me to offer it my roti;it gently accepted the gift. Peering in,my new friend stared with interest at the TV. The curious monkey,my grandfather, and I watched the rest of Tom and Jerry’s adventure together, astonished at the harmony that exists between humans and animals in our world. Warren Buffett is the current richest investor in the world. And he ranks No.2 among the world’s billionaires. But,compared to his money,it’s those famous quotes of his that attract the public’s attention. Though most people now see his words as jokes or anti chicken soup for the souls. But I find his words really inspiring. And the one sentence which impressed me the most is the following: Once you have ordinary intelligence, what you need is the temperament to control the urges that get other people into trouble in investing. The No.1 reason why most people fail to save is failing in controlling their desire. Desire makes you irrational. And that’s exactly who I was. Did I really need to drink a 30 RMB coffee just for several minutes’worth of vibe? Did I really need all those new garments every month? What did they bring me? They only brought me poverty. And the people who are behind these businesses have made money through my stupidity. If you don't want to do something for somebody, you should manage to say"No."in the first place. The moment you give in,you've given them the impression that they can use your time as long as they try hard enough. No"Let me see." No"Maybe." Just"No."and a"Sorry."if you want to be polite. Or you can ask"How much?"if it suits you. Time is the most precious thing that we have. Once you lose a piece of it,you can never get it back. And you have the freedom to decide how to use each piece of it. So if someone want a piece of your time, they have to be worth it,either by being someone you truly care about or by providing enough payment. Let me say it once again. Time is the most precious thing that we have.Learn to refuse when people ask for your time. 01 Youth Youth is not a time of life;it is a state of mind;it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees;it is a matter of the will,a quality of the imagination,a vigor of the emotions;it is the freshness of the deep springs of life. Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity,of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20.Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.Worry,fear,self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust. Whether 60 or 16,there is in every human being’s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing appetite for what’s next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart, there is a wireless station;so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, courage and power from man and from the infinite,so long as you are young. When your aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you’ve grown old, even at 20;but as long as your aerials are up,to catch waves of optimism, there’s hope you may die young at 80. 02 Three Days to See(Excerpts) All of us have read thrilling stories in which the hero had only a limited and specified time to live.Sometimes it was as long as a year, sometimes as short as 24 hours. But always we were interested in discovering just how the doomed hero chose to spend his last days or his last hours.I speak,of course,of free men who have a choice, not condemned criminals whose sphere of activities is strictly delimited. Such stories set us thinking, wondering what we should do under similar circumstances. What events, what experiences, what associations should we crowd into those last hours as mortal beings, what regrets? Sometimes I have thought it would be an excellent rule to live each day as if we should die tomorrow.Such an attitude would emphasize sharply the values of life.We should live each day with gentleness, vigor and a keenness of appreciation which are often lost when time stretches before us in the constant panorama of more days and months and years to come. There are those,of course, who would adopt the Epicurean motto of“Eat,drink, and be merry”.But most people would be chastened by the certainty of impending death. In stories the doomed hero is usually saved at the last minute by some stroke of fortune, but almost always his sense of values is changed. He becomes more appreciative of the meaning of life and its permanent spiritual values. It has often been noted that those who live,or have lived,in the shadow of death bring a mellow sweetness to everything they do. Most of us,however, take life for granted. We know that one day we must die,but usually we picture that day as far in the future. When we are in buoyant health, death is all but unimaginable. We seldom think of it.The days stretch out in an endless vista. So we go about our petty tasks, hardly aware of our listless attitude toward life. The same lethargy,I am afraid, characterizes the use of all our faculties and senses.Only the deaf appreciate hearing, only the blind realize the manifold blessings that lie in sight.Particularly does this observation apply to those who have lost sight and hearing in adult life. But those who have never suffered impairment of sight or hearing seldom make the fullest use of these blessed faculties.Their eyes and ears take in all sights and sounds hazily, without concentration and with little appreciation. It is the same old story of not being grateful for what we have until we lose it,of not being conscious of health until we are ill. I have often thought it would be a blessing if each human being were stricken blind and deaf for a few days at some time during his early adult life.Darkness would make him more appreciative of sight;silence would teach him the joys of sound. 03 Companionship of Books A man may usually be known by the books he reads as well as by the company he keeps;for there is a companionship of books as well as of men;and one should always live in the best company, whether it be of books or of men. A good book may be among the best of friends. It is the same today that it always was,and it will never change. It is the most patient and cheerful of companions. It does not turn its back upon us in times of adversity or distress. It always receives us with the same kindness;amusing and instructing us in youth, and comforting and consoling us in age. Men often discover their affinity to each other by the mutual love they have for a book just as two persons sometimes discover a friend by the admiration which both entertain for a third. There is an old proverb,‘Love me,love my dog.”But there is more wisdom in this:”Love me,love my book.”The book is a truer and higher bond of union.Men can think, feel, and sympathize with each other through their favorite author. They live in him together, and he in them. A good book is often the best urn of a life enshrining the best that life could think out;for the world of a man’s life is,for the most part, but the world of his thoughts. Thus the best books are treasuries of good words, the golden thoughts, which, remembered and cherished, become our constant companions and comforters. Books possess an essence of immortality. They are by far the most lasting products of human effort.Temples and statues decay, but books survive.Time is of no account with great thoughts, which are as fresh today as when they first passed through their author’s minds, ages ago. What was then said and thought still speaks to us as vividly as ever from the printed page. The only effect of time have been to sift out the bad products;for nothing in literature can long survive e but what is really good. Books introduce us into the best society;they bring us into the presence of the greatest minds that have ever lived. We hear what they said and did;we see the as if they were really alive;we sympathize with them, enjoy with them, grieve with them;their experience becomes ours, and we feel as if we were in a measure actors with them in the scenes which they describe. The great and good do not die, even in this world.Embalmed in books, their spirits walk abroad. The book is a living voice. It is an intellect to which on still listens. 04 If I Rest,I Rust The significant inscription found on an old key---“If I rest,I rust”---would be an excellent motto for those who are afflicted with the slightest bit of idleness.Even the most industrious person might adopt it with advantage to serve as a reminder that,if one allows his faculties to rest, like the iron in the unused key, they will soon show signs of rust and, ultimately, cannot do the work required of them. Those who would attain the heights reached and kept by great men must keep their faculties polished by constant use,so that they may unlock the doors of knowledge, the gate that guard the entrances to the professions,to science,art,literature,agriculture---every department of human endeavor. Industry keeps bright the key that opens the treasury of achievement. If Hugh Miller, after toiling all day in a quarry, had devoted his evenings to rest and recreation,he would never have become a famous geologist. The celebrated mathematician,Edmund Stone, would never have published a mathematical dictionary, never have found the key to science of mathematics,if he had given his spare moments to idleness, had the little Scotch lad,Ferguson, allowed the busy brain to go to sleep while he tended sheep on the hillside instead of calculating the position of the stars by a string of beads,he would never have become a famous astronomer. Labor vanquishes all---not inconstant, spasmodic,or ill-directed labor;but faithful, unremitting, daily effort toward a well-directed purpose.Just as truly as eternal vigilance is the price of liberty,so is eternal industry the price of noble and enduring success. 05 Ambition It is not difficult to imagine a world short of ambition. It would probably be a kinder world:with out demands, without abrasions, without disappointments.People would have time for reflection.Such work as they did would not be for themselves but for the collectivity.Competition would never enter in.conflict would be eliminated, tension become a thing of the past. The stress of creation would be at an end.Art would no longer be troubling, but purely celebratory in its functions.Longevity would be increased, for fewer people would die of heart attack or stroke caused by tumultuous endeavor.Anxiety would be extinct.Time would stretch on and on,with ambition long departed from the human heart. Ah,how unrelieved boring life would be! There is a strong view that holds that success is a myth, and ambition therefore a sham.Does this mean that success does not really exist? That achievement is at bottom empty? That the efforts of men and women are of no significance alongside the force of movements and events now not all success, obviously,is worth esteeming, nor all ambition worth cultivating.Which are and which are not is something one soon enough learns on one’s own.But even the most cynical secretly admit that success exists;that achievement counts for a great deal;and that the true myth is that the actions of men and women are useless. To believe otherwise is to take on a point of view that is likely to be deranging. It is,in its implications,to remove all motives for competence, interest in attainment, and regard for posterity. We do not choose to be born.We do not choose our parents. We do not choose our historical epoch, the country of our birth,or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us,choose to die;nor do we choose the time or conditions of our death. But within all this realm of choicelessness,we do choose how we shall live:courageously or in cowardice, honorably or dishonorably, with purpose or in drift. We decide what is important and what is trivial in life.We decide that what makes us significant is either what we do or what we refuse to do.But no matter how indifferent the universe may be to our choices and decisions, these choices and decisions are ours to make.We decide. We choose. And as we decide and choose,so are our lives formed. In the end, forming our own destiny is what ambition is about. 06 What I Have Lived For Three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, have governed my life:the longing for love, the search for knowledge, and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind. These passions, like great winds, have blown me hither and thither,in a wayward course, over a deep ocean of anguish, reaching to the very verge of despair. I have sought love, first, because it brings ecstasy---ecstasy so great that I would often have sacrificed all the rest of my life for a few hours for this joy.I have sought it,next, because it relieves loneliness---that terrible loneliness in which one shivering consciousness looks over the rim of the world into the cold unfathomable lifeless abyss.I have sought it,finally, because in the union of love I have seen,in a mystic miniature, the prefiguring vision of the heaven that saints and poets have imagined. This is what I sought, and though it might seem too good for human life, this is what---at last---I have found. With equal passion I have sought knowledge.I have wished to understand the hearts of men.I have wished to know why the stars shine. And I have tried to apprehend the Pythagorean power by which number holds sway above the flux.A little of this, but not much,I have achieved. Love and knowledge,so far as they were possible, led upward toward the heavens. But always it brought me back to earth.Echoes of cries of pain reverberate in my heart.Children in famine, victims tortured by oppressors, helpless old people a hated burden to their sons, and the whole world of loneliness, poverty, and pain make a mockery of what human life should be.I long to alleviate the evil, but I cannot, and I too suffer. This has been my life.I have found it worth living, and would gladly live it again if the chance were offered me.
